Chilliwack, BC- On November 6, 2012, the Chilliwack RCMP responded to the Royal Canadian Legion in response to a report of several poppy fund collection boxes being stolen from local businesses. The thefts occurred from several businesses along Vedder Road. In total, 6 collection boxes were stolen.

The thefts occurred over the past 5 days but it is difficult to tell when exactly they happened. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion attended to the businesses to change out the boxes and realized at that time that the boxes were missing. The poppy fundraiser runs for only 11 days and the Chilliwack Legion makes on average approximately $20,000 during this time to help local Chilliwack veterans. It's pretty disturbing, said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck. The motivation behind crimes like this is just pure greed. Our veterans have played such an integral role for Canadians and it's really upsetting to have to report on a crime like this.

If you have any information regarding this crime, please contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604 792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
